Idobata
Reflecting the public will in policy: building a platform for large-scale online deliberation
Idobata is a project to build a large-scale deliberation platform so that citizens in Japan, too, can take part in policymaking, drawing on pioneering examples from Taiwan such as "JOIN" and "vTaiwan".
Specifically, by using AI at each of the following three steps, it aims to go beyond simple majority voting, organize the issues under discussion from many angles, and support constructive consensus-building and policymaking:
- Identifying the issues to discuss
- Considering and discussing solutions
- Evaluating solutions and building consensus
Next steps
We intend to make tools that support discussion and consensus-building widely available to local governments and political parties, with each local government or party that wants to run a pilot deciding how to adopt and operate them.
We are currently finalizing the specifications, and will publish details once the conditions for adoption are in place.
